Wise to Xero: prepare older history by currency and date

Updated · 3 min read

For Wise Business activity older than the accounting connection’s lookback, prepare historical statements per currency and inspect what Xero already holds before importing. Wise’s 12-month sync-start limit and its 365-day maximum per statement request are different constraints. Neither means that one new connection automatically supplies your entire account history.

This guide addresses the history before an existing Wise–Xero feed. Prefer suitable Wise-native files. For PDF-only records, LocalExtract can prepare a local CSV; it does not extend the integration’s lookback.

The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.

Establish the actual sync boundary

Wise’s integration-history guidance says the starting date can be up to one year, or 12 months, in the past for connected currencies. For Xero, Connection settings → Bank feed activity can offer an earlier start within that limit.

Record the connection date, chosen start and each activated currency. An available earlier start is not proof that those transactions are already present. Inspect Xero’s actual statement history before changing a start date or uploading files. Keep a separate coverage row for each currency; an EUR statement does not replace missing USD history.

Build statement windows independently of the sync setting

The Wise statement guide limits each request to 365 days. Longer coverage needs multiple requests. From the currency or jar, use Statements and reports, or open that area from your initials and choose Statements → Create a statement. Select the currencies, dates and suitable native format, and complete the account verification requested by Wise.

A currency-account statement covers activity through Wise currency accounts. The Transactions-page transfer list is a different source when external payment methods are relevant. Do not replace a currency statement with a filtered activity list without checking its population. Follow Xero’s own file instructions rather than treating every format offered by Wise as accepted by Xero.

Check a historical handoff without overlapping the feed

In this invented case, the connection is made on October 16, 2026, with an earliest sync start of October 16, 2025. Historical work begins January 1, 2024:

Historical window, for each currencyPurpose
January 1–December 30, 2024First request, 365 days inclusive in a leap year
December 31, 2024–October 15, 2025Remaining history before the assumed sync start

The synthetic currency-window exercise checks request lengths and adjacent dates. The connection and start are stipulated, not a claim about your actual settings. Coverage must still be verified against the issued statements and Xero records.

Xero’s statement-source guide distinguishes Bank Feed, Imported and User lines. Inspect existing observations, including manually reconciled entries, before deciding which historical movements are genuinely absent. History may already be partly imported; do not resend the whole old period on the assumption that “before sync” means “missing.”

Use the Xero balance investigation to document source gaps and the Xero CSV import guide for actual upload and mapping. LocalExtract exports one PDF at a time to date, description, amount. It does not create Wise currency feeds or repair Xero records. Download for a PDF source.

Official Wise and Xero documentation checked October 16, 2026. Product availability and account permissions remain relevant.
