Mollie settlement missing at month-end: follow the reference

Updated · 3 min read

If a Mollie settlement appears missing at month-end, compare its actual reference, destination, currency and amount before requiring the settlement date to equal the bank posting date. A September settlement can be an October bank observation without being a duplicate or a missing sale.

Official reference.

The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.

Download the settlement itself

  1. Open Reports → Settlements and choose month and year.
  2. Select the actual settlement reference and download the appropriate CSV, PDF, MT940 or CODA file.
  3. Retain the original file and settlement context, including its amount, currency and destination.
  4. Read the literal reference before searching the bank. Mollie’s support examples and API documentation use different-looking references, so do not replace it with a guessed universal prefix.

The settlement-report instructions describe the download. The bank-reference guidance and settlement API reference support keeping the actual identity and date roles distinct.

Keep the settlement’s date, including settledAt where provided, separate from the receiving bank’s posting date. API fields do not establish that every UI export contains the same columns. Use the actual file and account details for the join, not an imagined common schema.

Interpret the exported balance narrowly

Costs and reserves can be aggregated in settlement reporting. Do not reconstruct unsupported per-order allocations just because the bank deposit is lower than customer payments. Mollie’s settlement MT940 starts at zero and ends at the settlement transfer amount. That is not the opening and closing balance of the merchant’s complete bank account. The invented month-boundary exercise stipulates a settlement dated September 30 and a bank credit on October 1, both 480 in the same currency and destination with the same supplied reference. A September-only bank-date filter misses the match. A second bank line of 480 with a different reference remains unresolved. The reference’s punctuation is retained rather than rewritten to a guessed prefix.

The stipulated settlement MT940 opening is 0 and closing is 480. These values describe that settlement transfer, not the balances of the complete receiving bank account.

Close only the supported match

Record the settlement identity, file, amount, currency, destination and observed bank reference. Expand the bank search interval when dates differ, but do not guarantee arrival on a particular day. An unexplained difference or absent destination evidence remains an exception. These controls test a fictional reference join, not Mollie transfers, UI exports or an MT940 parser.
