Zoho Books: complete the earlier saved reconciliation

Updated · 3 min read

The Zoho Books US error asking you to complete an earlier saved reconciliation refers to an In-Progress reconciliation for that account. Open its history and review that unfinished period before starting another. Uploading the statement again or changing its CSV format does not complete the saved reconciliation.

This guide identifies the period blocking a new reconciliation. For a PDF-only supporting statement, LocalExtract can prepare transaction CSV locally; it does not change reconciliation status.

The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.

Find the unfinished reconciliation on the same account

Zoho’s saved-reconciliation error explanation associates the message with Save And Reconcile Later. Open Reconciliation History for the affected bank account and inspect the topmost reconciliation marked In-Progress. Check its start date, end date and statement before resuming it.

The reconciliation instructions place the account’s reconciliation history under Banking → account → Gear → Reconcile Account. Check the account identity first: an unfinished period on a different account does not explain this account’s error.

Do not assume that the unfinished period is the latest calendar month. The saved start/end dates are the operative scope, even when the statement you want to process next belongs to a later period.

Review the saved details before completing it

Only matched, categorized and manually added transactions appear in the reconciliation window, according to Zoho. If a source movement is absent, check its state and the saved dates instead of assuming another upload is required.

Compare the saved Closing Balance, Cleared Amount and selected transactions with the issued statement. Zoho requires a zero difference for completion, but changing the closing balance simply to achieve zero does not establish a correct period. Resolve unsupported differences before using Reconcile to finish the reviewed saved reconciliation.

Zoho also warns that an opening balance cannot be edited once transactions have been reconciled. Do not complete an unverified starting point just to release the next period. Its undo procedure can involve later reconciliations; reversing history is a separate change, not the first response to this message.

Distinguish the three states in your workpaper

Synthetic historyInvestigation result
Account A, September, In-ProgressResume and verify this saved period before October
Account A, September, ReconciledThis row is not the documented unfinished-state cause
Account B, September, In-ProgressInvestigate B separately; it does not identify A’s blocking row

The synthetic account-period worksheet uses a separate August example: Z-A has the saved In-Progress period, while Z-B’s August period is already Reconciled. These aliases and dates differ from the September table above, but both checks keep account identity and saved state separate. The worksheet does not log into Zoho or mark any period complete. Save the reviewed history reference and final outcome before returning to the next statement period.

Use the statement reconciliation workflow for unresolved bank/book differences. LocalExtract exports a single PDF’s transactions as date, description, amount CSV, without importing, matching or reconciling them in Zoho. Download for source preparation.
