Stripe Connect: platform or connected-account payout report?
Updated · 3 min read
Before matching a Stripe Connect deposit, decide whose balance and bank account the report describes. A platform’s application fees and a connected account’s customer proceeds are not one bank receipt, even when both relate to the same charge.
The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.
Choose the owner before the date filter
- In the financial-report filter, choose the platform-account-only view or Connected accounts according to whose balance is being investigated.
- For the connected view, note that all connected accounts are included by default. Use All accounts to select a subset when needed.
- For one account, open Connected accounts → account details → Reports → View financial reports.
- Export the relevant settlement currency and retain timezone and account scope. Keep platform and connected-account exports distinct.
Stripe’s report-filter instructions distinguish the owner view from the account subset. An uncontrolled account with its own full Dashboard is outside the platform’s financial-report view; its holder supplies its own authorized report.
An uncontrolled account with its own full Dashboard is outside the platform’s available financial-report view. Its holder must provide its own authorized report. Seeing some connected accounts is not evidence that the platform can report on every one. The activity-breakdown drilldown available for a platform-account report is also not a promise of the same drilldown for connected reports.
Check the actual charge flow
With direct charges, the customer charge affects the connected balance and the application fee affects the platform balance. Indirect charge flows differ. Establish the existing flow from its records; do not change Connect configuration during a bank investigation or treat every customer’s gross payment as platform cash. The decision table keeps report ownership and the fictional destinations distinct:
| Evidence population | Report choice or provider | Fixture amount and destination |
|---|---|---|
| Platform balance | Platform-account-only report view | 12 to P |
| Controlled connected balance | Connected accounts, then all or selected subset | 188 to C |
| Uncontrolled full-Dashboard account | Its holder supplies the authorized report | Unavailable; never assume zero |
The official filter instructions distinguish selecting the connected view from selecting the subset within it. Establish the relevant view first, then use its payout records; an all-connected total does not replace a platform-only report.
The fictional ownership exercise stipulates a direct-charge case with 12 belonging to the platform and 188 to the connected account after all stated components. Separate payout and destination records support those amounts. Their sum of 200 is not one account’s bank deposit. A third account without platform report access stays unresolved rather than being silently omitted from a supposedly complete total.
Hand off the correct payout population
Once the owner, currency and access are established, use the automatic-payout guide for the itemized balance-event bridge. That guide does not establish account ownership for you. Keep a separate exception for unavailable reports or unknown charge flow. The exercise verifies its stipulated allocation and missing-access control; it does not run Stripe charges or prove a particular fee schedule.
