NatWest Statements to Excel: Search Exports and PDF-to-CSV Checks
Updated · 6 min read
NatWest documents native transaction export including Excel and PDF; do not assume CSV. This guide covers the UK product and the task described below.
The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.
Choose the activity export without inventing its format
NatWest’s transaction-search guide describes online search by type, date, description or amount, with export choices including Excel and PDF. Use the offered native Excel file when it covers the task. This source does not establish a universal CSV option or a particular workbook extension. Inspect the actual file before mapping its fields.
The online guidance describes searching back seven years, while its mobile calendar search describes up to twelve months of history. Those are separate published search conditions, not guarantees that every product or exported file covers the whole window. Do not conclude an older record is absent because the mobile filter does not reach it. For the issued PDF, use the NatWest document route.
Know whether your PDF is a statement or a search report
Both can have a PDF extension, yet only one may be the issued cycle. A keyword-filtered search PDF contains selected activity, not necessarily the account’s complete period. Record document type, account alias, chosen dates and conditions in the source register. Preserve the original file unchanged.
| Invented input | Suitable analysis | Invalid assumption |
|---|---|---|
| Issued full-cycle document | Cycle reconciliation when comparable balances exist | Every PDF uses identical layout |
| Supplier-only search PDF | Supplier-payment list | It contains all account activity |
| Native Excel export of a date range | Activity over that range | Range equals the printed monthly cycle |
If the input lacks comparable opening and closing balances, do not manufacture them. Verify selected rows and state that balance reconciliation was unavailable. If the range overlaps another import, mark the overlap before combining it. A file named September and another named Q3 can include some of the same activity.
Map a PDF or native file into a checked working view
For one selected deposit account, represent posted inflows as positive and outflows as negative in your chosen table. Read the meaning of the date from the actual source. Keep an additional date, type or search condition in manual worksheet columns when useful. No native NatWest headers or PDF structure were tested for this guide. The following is a synthetic illustration of date, description, amount:
date,description,amount
2026-09-01,Example receipt,250.00
2026-09-02,"Example supplier, stationery",-100.00
2026-09-03,Example fee,-10.00
For CSV, use Data → From Text/CSV in Excel, inspect delimiter, date types and decimal amounts, then load. See Microsoft’s import guide and RFC 4180 for quoted descriptions. An offered native workbook can be opened as its actual type; do not rename it CSV and assume conversion happened. Saving XLSX from a checked CSV is an Excel operation, separate from LocalExtract.
Compare each included movement with its source, checking wrapped descriptions, missing pages and duplicated imports. Use an opening-plus-movements check only for the same account, currency and period with comparable balances. A correct net amount does not prove the row dates or descriptions are correct.
Check the method with invented records
We recomputed three deliberately constructed cases on October 11, 2026 using decimal arithmetic: complete rows, an omitted fee and a duplicated movement. The reference total and every number are invented. This checks the reconciliation method only: no bank account, real PDF, OCR result or LocalExtract output was tested. The same learning aid is used across these guides.
| Case | Calculated closing total | Difference from reference |
|---|---|---|
| Complete rows | 1140 | 0 |
| Fee omitted | 1150 | 10 |
| Movement duplicated | 1040 | -100 |
Illustrative units, not a real account balance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this source prove native CSV export?
No. The official transaction guide lists choices including Excel and PDF. Use formats actually offered; CSV in this article is a chosen working output when needed.
Can mobile search prove an old transaction does not exist?
No. Its published search window differs from online search. Check the applicable source and product before drawing that conclusion.
Does a search PDF contain every movement?
Only if its actual coverage and conditions provide that complete set. A filtered report can omit valid rows even though it is PDF.
What if no opening or closing balance is supplied?
Verify each included row and document that a balance reconciliation was unavailable. Do not invent endpoints or adjustments.
If PDF is the relevant source
LocalExtract processes one PDF at a time on the device and exports CSV with date, description, amount. Parsing and OCR do not require uploading the statement. This is a working table that needs comparison with the original; no bank compatibility was validated here. There is no direct XLSX, QBO or OFX export, bulk queue or automatic accounting sync. To obtain XLSX, import the checked CSV and save from Excel.
The free evaluation covers ten pages in total. Pro is USD 10/month or USD 60/year. Account, subscription, update and periodic Pro checks need network access. See downloads and product scope.
Sources and verification scope
Public official guidance checked October 11, 2026. Account controls, document availability and bank layouts were not authenticated-tested. The method exercises use invented records, not actual bank samples or measured extraction results.
Updated October 11, 2026: Added task-specific source decisions, date/amount examples and CSV import checks. No bank format or app output was validated.
Inspect the native Excel option first, identify the exact source and filters, and keep its coverage visible. When working from PDF, verify the resulting table against that source rather than an unrelated cycle.
