FreeAgent Undo last upload: check order and attachments
Updated · 2 min read
Before using FreeAgent’s Undo last upload, check both the upload sequence and any attachments on its transactions. The operation removes the most recent statement upload for the selected account, and attachments added to explained transactions in that statement are also deleted.
This guide is for investigating a wrong statement upload in FreeAgent UK. Re-extracting a PDF with LocalExtract cannot undo the existing upload or preserve its attachments for you.
The desktop apps export date, description, and amount as CSV. Open CSV in Excel to save an XLSX workbook. Statement support varies: verify the result against your own PDF.
Identify the account and the last upload
The official undo instructions describe an upload-level operation, not an arbitrary date-range deletion. Open Banking → Bank Accounts, select the affected account and use More → Undo last upload to inspect the transactions FreeAgent proposes to remove.
Compare that list with your upload record. A wrong September file uploaded before a correct October file is not necessarily the “last upload” merely because September is the period needing correction. FreeAgent processes repeated undo operations in reverse upload order.
Do not continue through a correct later upload without a reviewed recovery plan. The source does not describe skipping directly to any older upload by selecting its calendar month.
Preserve supporting files before confirming removal
FreeAgent states that attachments on explained transactions in the uploaded statement are deleted too. Save the relevant files from their transactions, or follow its documented account-wide attachment export, before authorizing removal. Record which supporting file belongs to which transaction so a later re-upload does not leave untraceable attachments.
Review the proposed removal list as a whole. Delete these transactions is the confirmation described by FreeAgent; it is not a preview-only button. If you do not intend to remove everything displayed, stop and investigate the appropriate correction rather than confirming to see what happens.
Work through the reverse-order constraint
| Synthetic upload order on account A | Status | Consequence for review |
|---|---|---|
| U1: September file | Wrong account-period scope | Desired correction target |
| U2: October file | Reviewed and correct | More recent upload encountered first |
In this scenario, the first undo would concern U2, not U1. The synthetic upload-order worksheet also flags an attachment belonging to U1 for preservation. Python checks only the defined sequence; no transactions or files are removed from FreeAgent.
Once the authorized correction is complete, use the source-overlap workflow to prepare the right replacement population, then inspect the actual upload result. Do not treat the original file or a matching total as proof that all accounting explanations and attachments have been restored.
LocalExtract processes a single PDF locally to date, description, amount CSV. It does not access FreeAgent uploads, reverse explanations or restore deleted files. Download for a corrected PDF source.
